I too had to replace the old 1/2 factory motor with a baldor 1 1/2, but I didnt hesitate great motor for the mill. I too bought the 40 rip off copied manual from WellsIndex and was very disappointed in its quality and contents.

WEBMay 17, 2006 · Mine has #9 Brown Sharpe taper spindle. Tooling is not as easy to find as R8. True but not impossible either. Wells Index will regrind the spindle if you desire for about IIRC. I spent for mine, which is a model 45, made in 1957. Go look it over, you won't be dissapointed.

WEBDec 22, 2021 · Keep the spindle brake you'll want it if you ever use an ER collet chuck in the spindle and need to tighten the collet nut (just one example). This is how mine is mounted. Just make yourself a riser block. Your drawbar is too long. But be very precise when you shorten it on the end that goes into the R8 tooling.
