I used Sulfur found at a garden supply store, Air Float Charcoal, and Technical Grade KNO3. I milled it for about 2 hours or so and then added 5% dextrin and granulated it. Never ever ball mill potassium perchlorate and aluminum together in a ball mill. There are only a few mixes of components that can be mill together. Always use saftey first when using a ball mill. I have been working on this idea for some time now. I should be able to demonstrate my screenmixed black powder within a week or two. The intention is to use a 3lb nozzleless rocket to lift a 6" ball shell. The burst will be the same powder. More of the same powder will be used to lift and burst shells.

Glass is brittle and will flake off, and ground glass is a wellknown frictionincreasing additive. And either way it's too hard, increasing the risk of impact ignition.

As far as placement of your mill, the ideal distance is probably around 150ft or more away from any buildings of any sort. If you can barricade it that's even better (things like sandbags). Just make sure you don't block off air to the motor. When making black powder there is always a chance for it to go off.

Have not made black powder since I was, oh, 12. I have a Harbor Freight tumbler with its two rubber chambers suitable for milling BP. (I don't use the small rubber chambers for brass cleaning as I built a larger chamber from 4" PVC that holds more and is easier to seal and open.) I have never had a, " little mill" but once you get a mill dialed in with the correct media and charge with (dry) chems it doesn't take long to mill powder to it's peak power. some have tested powder every 1/2 hour and found that a correct mill will get it done in 2 hours.
